Tankless is excellent. It is not for every house.
Every plumbing site in Utah pushes tankless. In much of Weber County the deciding factor is not the unit, it is the water.
What is it doing?
Pick the closest. Takes about thirty seconds.
We come back with what actually failed, whether it is a part or the tank, and what each option costs. No visit needed to get that far.
Repair first
We do not condemn a water heater because of its birthday. Many have years left with an anode rod, a valve or a flush.
Flat upfront pricing
Quoted and approved before anything starts. No hourly meter, no line items added while we are in there.
Same day capable
A person answers the phone. Real arrival windows, and parts on the truck for the common faults.
What it is probably doing
A tankless unit heats water as it passes through, so it never runs out and it does not stand there keeping forty gallons hot all day. In the right house that is a genuinely better machine, and it will outlast a tank by years.
In the wrong house it is an expensive way to buy a problem. Hard water scales the heat exchanger, and without softening and annual descaling that scale will shorten its life and void most warranties. That is the conversation almost nobody has with you before they sell one.
You already soften your water
The main obstacle is handled. Tankless becomes a strong option.
Large household, showers overlapping
This is where tankless earns its money, once it is sized correctly.
You are remodelling anyway
Gas line and venting work is already open, which removes most of the cost gap.
Hard water and no softener
Scale will shorten its life and void most warranties. Fix the water first.
Small household, modest usage
You may never recover the extra cost over a good tank unit.
Undersized gas line or awkward venting
Doable, but it is where the budget goes. We price it honestly up front.
Tell us the symptom. We will tell you which one it is.

Serial read, symptom traced, tank checked. About twenty minutes.

Repair cost and replacement cost, side by side, in writing, with our recommendation.
Flat price, approved before we startWe do the work
Parts on the truck for common repairs. Replacement stock available same day.
Price does not moveIf we recommend a repair and the tank fails within a year, the repair comes off the replacement
We would rather be wrong at our own expense than sell you a water heater you did not need. Every install is warranted on parts and labour.
What it costs
Published, because you should be able to work out roughly where you stand before anyone comes to the house.
- Tankless installation $3,500 to $5,500
- Gas water heater replacement, for comparison $2,100 to $3,250
- Maintenance and descaling $150 to $325
- Water heater repair $225 to $900
Where you land in the range
The low end is a thermocouple or a thermostat. The high end is a gas control valve, or work that needs the tank drained and a fitting cut out.
We tell you which end you are on before the work starts, and the price does not move after that.
Five of these six are parts. One is the tank.
- 1Anode rod
Corrodes so the steel tank does not. Spent by roughly year five, and almost nobody replaces it.
- 2Dip tube
Carries cold water to the bottom. When it cracks, cold mixes at the top and the shower turns lukewarm early.
- 3Temperature and pressure valve
A safety device. If it weeps it is usually the valve or the expansion tank pressure, not the heater.
- 4Sediment layer
Hard water leaves scale on the tank floor, insulating the burner from the water. That is the rumbling.
- 5Drain valve
Prone to seeping once it has been opened after years of neglect.
- 6Thermostat and gas control
Governs burner and pilot. The usual reason a pilot will not hold.
Questions we get asked
How much does a tankless water heater cost installed in Ogden?
$3,500 to $5,500 fitted. Most of the spread is gas line sizing and venting rather than the unit itself. Against $2,100 to $3,250 for a gas tank, you are paying a real premium, which is why it should only go in where it makes sense.
Is tankless worth it in Utah?
It can be, but the water is the deciding factor. Northern Utah water is hard, and scale is what kills tankless units. If you soften your water and descale annually, a tankless will outlast a tank by years. If you do neither, you will get less life out of it than the tank you replaced.
Does a tankless water heater need maintenance?
Yes, more than a tank does. It needs descaling roughly once a year here. That is why we insist on isolation valves at install, because without them descaling means partly dismantling the unit.
Will a tankless unit run out of hot water?
Not in the way a tank does. It is limited by flow rate rather than volume, so the failure mode is different: too many fixtures at once means cooler water rather than no water. That is a sizing question, and it is the one most often got wrong.
Can I convert from a tank to tankless?
Usually, but it is rarely a straight swap. It typically needs a larger gas line, different venting and a new mounting location. We will price the whole job rather than quoting the unit and finding the rest later.
Which tankless brands do you install?
Navien, Rinnai, Takagi and Stiebel Eltron, plus EcoSmart on the electric side. We will tell you which suits the house rather than which one we happen to stock.

Three questions. We will tell you whether this is a part or a tank, and roughly what each one costs, before anybody schedules anything.
Mon to Sat, 7am to 7pm. Emergency service available.
Most repair calls are seen the same day. Replacements are usually next day, sooner if the tank is leaking.
