What to have ready

The age if you know it, what the heater is doing, and whether it is gas or electric. With those three things we can usually narrow the problem considerably before anyone visits.

Response times

Most repair calls are seen the same day. Replacements are usually next day, sooner if the tank is leaking. A leaking tank is treated as urgent whatever the distance.
